C-FARE thanks board, webinar presenters for catalyzing informed policy
New board members, immediate past members responsible for continuing educational work
As we end the year, the Council on Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics (C-FARE) wishes to recognize its board of directors, especially new members, and thank those presenters who shared research for the council’s ongoing programming for legislative offices and agency staff.
This year, C-FARE held webinars spanning trade and farm incomes; Hispanic farm enterprises; food innovations and labeling and local food markets. Its annual Jon Brandt Public Policy Forum this fall in Washington focused on rural prosperity and considered university Extension offices’ efforts, housing in small communities and rural broadband, and the shifting business models (and closure) of rural hospitals.
Its directors provide leadership, governance and oversight of the organization and its programming. C-FARE promotes the work of applied economists and serves as a catalyst for incorporating economics into the analysis of food, agricultural and resource decisions. C-FARE added three professors to its board of directors:
Duncan M. Chembezi, Alabama A&M University
Jane Kolodinsky, University of Vermont
Barry J. Barnett, University of Kentucky
“In tight budget times, it’s imperative policymakers and other funders understand our value proposition,” Barnett says. “C-FARE ensures that the knowledge generated by agricultural and applied economists is effectively communicated to the broader agricultural policy community.”
C-FARE wishes to thank its veteran board members who rotated off in 2019:
Cathy Roheim, University of Idaho
Deacue Fields, University of Arkansas
Dan Lass, University of Massachusetts
“C-FARE’s board is a volunteer effort which serves an important role in guiding our policy education activities,” says Spiro Stefanou, a University of Florida food and resources economist and board chair of the council.
C-FARE also would like to thank the following professors and researchers without whom the council’s programming would not be as substantive and diverse:
Nicole Negowetti, Harvard Law School
Carrie Litkowski, U.S. Department of Agriculture Economic Research Service
John Newton, American Farm Bureau Federation
Allen Featherstone, Kansas State University
Ian Sheldon, Ohio State University
Amanda Countryman, Colorado State University
Joe Glauber, International Food Policy Research Institute
Jason Grant, Virginia Tech
Maria Elba Rodriguez-Alcala, University of Missouri
Corinne Valdivia, University of Missouri
Stephen C. Jeanetta, University of Missouri
Michael Nepveux, American Farm Bureau Federation
Glynn Tonsor, Kansas State University
Jeff O’Hara, USDA Agricultural Marketing Service
Dawn Thilmany, Colorado State University
Becca Jablonski, Colorado State University
Tim Marema of The Daily Yonder
Joy Moten-Thomas, Fort Valley State University
Corianne Scally, Urban Institute
Alison Davis, University of Kentucky
Roberto Gallardo, Purdue Center for Regional Development
Board members and programming committee leaders Kolodinsky and Sean B. Cash of Tufts University (who along with Negowetti presented a webinar July 26) are currently seeking proposal ideas for 2020.
Joining Stefanou, Chembezi, Kolodinsky, Barnett and Cash are C-FARE’s continuing directors:
Roger Coupal, University of Wyoming, immediate past chair
Gal Hochman, Rutgers University
John Newton, American Farm Bureau Federation
Andrew Muhammad, University of Tennessee
Luis A. Ribera, Texas A&M University
