21. Letter to CSREES on AFRI Program (2008)

C-FARE attended the public hearing and provided written comments to CSREES regarding the new Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) which was authorized in the 2008 Farm Bill.


22. Census of Agriculture Review (2006)

In 2006 C-FARE responded to a request from USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) to assemble a panel of experts to conduct an “independent, comprehensive and objective review of the Census of Agriculture.” With Dr. John E. Lee, Jr. (Mississippi State University) serving as review director, Dr. A. Gene Nelson (Texas A&M) as the Review Chair, and Dr. Jerald J. Fletcher (West Virginia University) as the Vice-Chair, an expert panel of agricultural economists, statisticians, and sociologists conducted a review and wrote a comprehensive report.


23. Researching Invasive Weeds Brief (2006)

C-FARE and the Weed Science Society of America (WSSA) partnered to hold both a stakeholder briefing and a Congressional briefing on May 5, 2006 addressing the Economics of Invasive Species. Two scientists spoke on the outcome of their federally funded research provided by the USDA ERS PREISM program. C-FARE was represented by Dr. Munisamy (Gopi) Gopinath at Oregon State University and WSSA was represented by Dr. Bruce Maxwell from Montana State University. Thirty-five individuals representing federal agencies, grower groups, and the academic sector attended the stakeholder briefing. Approximately a dozen staff from both the House and Senate attended the Congressional briefing.


The NAAEA Fall 2005 meeting was held in Washington, DC in October. C-FARE helped with the planning of the conference which included highlights from government agencies focusing on opportunities for agricultural economists. During the event CFARE also sponsored a reception in a Senate Hearing room to recognize Washington, DC agricultural economists for their dedication to economic principles. During the reception, an award was presented to Senator Thad Cochran (MS) for his understanding and appreciation of economics.

25. Partnering For Enhanced Research Symposium (2004)

On September 27, 2004 C-FARE held a day-long symposium in Washington, DC to discuss how the agricultural and natural resources communities could increase their partnering opportunities to enhance research. Panels addressed issues including: Case Studies of Successful Partnering Research, How to Communicate your Message as Partners, and Future Opportunities for Partnering.
